CHS Engineering is specialized in digital control boards. The products are based on a development tool designed for quick development of DSP-based control systems. This has been originally developed at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, in the Industrial Electronics Laboratory

DSP-based products are used for the control of various systems. The DAVID board controls the system using the measurement of some system variables (e.g speeds, position, forces/torques, current,...) a control algorithm computes the command variables at regular time intervals ( sampling time). The power of the DSP allows very fast task such as current regulation to be implemented. The board can be linked to a PC for the application development.

The whole system is an easy to use development tool. The DSP board ( DAVID or DV3 ) and his interfaces are powerful and reliable systems that can easily be included in your industrial product.

Power, flexibility and easyness in one system
Our DSP boards allow sampling frequencies in the order of 50 kHz to be reached. The boards include up to 24 fast A/D converters, 8 D/A converters, 100 digital I/O channels, FPGA programmable logic (e.g. PWM and space vector modulation, incremental encoder), RS232 interface. A fast digital communication allows synchronisation and exchange of information between up to 8 boards. The users program and the FPGA configuration are stored in a permanent FLASH memory. The boards can be programmed from the supervisor program that offers a complete development environment. Using a simple modem, it is possible to debug or acquire data from a remote application. Once programmed, the board can work in stand alone, i.e. without the development environment.

Integrated Development Environment
DV3 allows quick development of applications thanks to its basic software. The software is made of two parts :
  • PC Integrated Development Environment ( IDE )
  • DSP basic kernel.

The IDE is designed to optimize the development of applications. It offers 3 main facilities :

  1. Easy C code edition, compilation and download
  2. Monitoring of application : Run and Stop user processes, variables inspection and modification
  3. Data acquisition

DSP Monitor

The IDE communicates with the DSP board with a monitor running on the DSP board itself. The monitor is resident on the board. All the monitor features are completely transparent to the user. In practice, the user has just to fill one or two functions directly related to his control algorithm.
